Felicity’s first day of school

IMG_0890Felicity started pre-school today at our church’s school, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  She will go every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.  She was very excited to go and I think that it helped that we went into her classroom last Friday for about an hour and met the teachers and got to play in her classroom.  She was hooked!  She was very cute today, here are some of the highlights:

* On our way to school she told me “Mommy, if Michaela does anything cute while I am at school make sure you grab the camera and record it so I can see it when I get home.”

* Once at school we put her lunchbox in her cubby and headed into her classroom while holding my hand, but as soon as she walked through that door she squeezed my hand very tight and only let go to give her teacher a hug and find her name tag.

* Michaela seemed a little confused when I put her in her car seat and Felicity wasn’t in hers.  She looked back at the school doors and then at me and said “Fa Fi?” (her word for Felicity).  Then when I got her up from her nap to go get Felicity, I asked her, “do you wan to go get Felicity?”  She got excited and still 1/2 asleep yelled, “FA FI!”

* When I walked into her classroom to pick her up, she saw me, got a big smile on her face and came racing towards me!  Too cute!

She had a great day and really likes it.  Her teachers Mrs. LaFevre and Mrs. Hoffman, are terrific and you can tell from the instant that you meet them that they love their job and truly love the kids they teach.  It is going to be a great year!

Fancy

image

Aunt Jane was the one who introduced Felicity to the Fancy Nancy series of books by Jane O’Connor. Nancy is a very unique little girl who loves to dress up and do all things fancy, even using fancy words. The illustrations are great too. Apparently the illustrator, Robin Preiss Glasser was a ballerina at one time, and most of her illustrations of Nancy have her in some ballet type pose.

Anyway, in the first book (pictured here), Nancy laments how its tough being the only fancy one in the family. One day she gets the idea to offer free fancy lessons to her mom, dad and little sister. 2009-04-25_1708_IMG_8121They get all dressed up and go out to eat at some little diner or something. Well, Felicity had been bugging us to go out to a “fancy dinner” for a while, and last weekend we finally did it!

Felicity wore all of her Fancy Nancy stuff that she got from Uncle Kenny, plus a few other fancy accessories! Mom even put a little makeup on her. She picked out all of our outfits and then we went to Panda Express, oooh la la! It was fun, and some of the pictures are really classic. I think they capture the stage that Felicity is at right now. So enjoy a few of my favorite photos below, or check out the rest in the April 2009 photo set.

Happy Halloween!

We hope everybody had a safe and wonderfully spooky Halloween!!  We had a great time celebrating Michaela’s first Halloween, even though she had no idea what was going on.  Felicity was Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty), of course . . . did you expect anything else?!  Michaela was a flower or according to big sister she was “fowler.”  Mommy and Daddy raided Felicity’s dress up chest at the last minute to find something to wear, sort of.  Mommy was also a flower and daddy was a bunny.  Someone asked if he was a Playboy bunny, aren’t Playboy bunnies girls?  What where they thinking?

Michaela didn’t really know what was going on.  I carried her for a little bit then she rode in the stroller the rest of the night.  She mostly just sat there and chewed on her costume.  She did pretty good.  Felicity was her usual shy self!!  She didn’t say Trick-or-Treat, okay I take that back.  A couple of houses got a “trick” and maybe 1 or 2 houses got a full “Trick-or-Treat,” but most houses got nothing!!!  Sometimes she was so shy she wouldn’t even reach out with her bag to get the candy.  Maybe next year she will be better . . . maybe little sister will have to drag her around to the houses.  :)    Oh well, she still had fun dressing up and this year she got to wear make-up!  Here’s our Halloween night:

Don’t worry, that’s lipstick on Michaela’s forehead, thanks to her sister and her constant kissing!

Video: Felicity’s 3rd Birthday Interview

So I wish I could take credit for this idea, but I got the idea from our friend Jennifer who did it for her daughter Brenna’s 3rd Birthday. Next time I’ll have more questions planned out ahead of time. But she’s still darn cute…and totally into princesses!

Felicity’s 3rd Birthday

IMG_6761

September 17th was Felicity’s 3rd Birthday…if you can believe it. We started the nearly week long celebration with a party at our house on the Saturday before. I forgot how much work it was to get ready for a party! It was a Princess themed party, and Becky tried out a cute idea and made cupcakes in ice cream cones and frosted them but let the kids decorate their own with M&Ms and sprinkles.

IMG_6701 IMG_6717

IMG_6720 Felicity was obviously very excited to have her friends and family over. But we were surprised a little by her reaction when it came time for cake. In addition to the cupcakes for the kids, the rest of us had a regular cake to eat. She was obviously excited about her princess birthday cake but she didn’t really like being the center of attention. She didn’t like being sung to and she didn’t even want to blow out her own candles with all of those people staring at her! I had no idea that shyness was genetic!

IMG_6722 IMG_6724  IMG_6733

IMG_6727The scenario was similar when it came to opening her presents. She didn’t like everyone staring at her so Becky ended up opening most of her presents! It was cute. Maybe next year she’ll be a little more self confident.

IMG_6742So her big present from Becky and I was a bike. She was so excited to get it and her princess helmet.  Her legs are just barely long enough to reach the pedals, but I think she’ll get there. We didn’t have too long to for her to work on it before we took off for Sedona.

IMG_6748 IMG_6751

IMG_6784 After a short stop in Mesa at Margaret and Louie’s, we made it up to Sedona on Wednesday, Felicity’s actual birthday. We had a small little birthday party that night, our friend Beth came down from Flagstaff with her daughter Kendall. Felicity and Kendall had a great time, and we all enjoyed some pizza, salad and cupcakes…princess of course! Auntie Ann came through in spades with a cool princess tent and some great little dressup shoes that Felicity has been wearing around since yesterday…I’m told they’re “peep toe slingbacks”. All I know is they’re cute and Felicity looks entirely too comfortable wearing them. Yet another sign that she’s growing up so incredibly fast…I can’t believe she’s 3 now!

Felicity’s Turn

It seems like most of our postings lately have been about Michaela, but this one is about Felicity!  She has had a few major things going on in the last 2 weeks or so that we thought we would share with everybody.

The first is her new dance class.  The lady that taught my yoga class also teaches dance class.  Her classes start at age 3 and go all the way up to adults.  Even though Felicity is not quite 3 she was allowed to start the “toddler” dance class, so we signed her up!  She will be learning ballet and tap dance.  Her first dance class was on August 7 and she will go every Thursday.  I stayed around to watch the first class and Felicity did really well at both the dancing and with listening to her teacher (good thing she listens to somebody because she certainly doesn’t listen to us!).  this past Thursday I wasn’t allowed to watch, Miss Kim says the parents are too distracting for the girls, so I left.  It felt kind of strange to leave her there all by herself, but I guess it was good practice for when she goes off to school.  Here are some pictures of her in her dance class outfit with both her tap shoes and her ballet shoes.

The second major event . . . giving up her binky!!!  A little over 2 weeks ago she decided to stop taking her naps (big bummer I know), so we make her take “quiet time” in her room.  Well the problem was that she used her binky at her naptime and at bedtime.  I told her one day that since she wasn’t taking a nap that she needed to give me her binky.  That is when she told me that she wanted to go to Build-A-Bear.  You see, we told her that when she was ready to give up her binky we would take her to Build-A-Bear and she could pick out a bear to make and stuff her binkies inside the bear.  That way when she went to sleep she would still have her binkies, just not using them.  That great idea was from my sister Ann who used it with her son when he gave up his binky.  So, on the same day as her first dance class we took her to Build-A-Bear to make her bear.  She picked out a very cute bear and then picked out a ballerina outfit for her.  Her name is Binky Bear and she is very cute.  And while this was a great idea it appears that it may not really be a quick fix for us.  At “quiet time” she spends a long time hitting her bear and shouting “binky, binky, binky!”  She even told me the other day that she wanted to take the bear back so she could have her binkies again.  The good news is that since she is not taking naps she falls asleep much faster at nights which means we don’t her her cries for her binky for as long, if at all!  Here’s Felicity and Binky Bear.

Catching Up . . . Big time!

IMG_6350

Wow, it has been a very long time since we last updated.  Sorry!  It has been a busy month.  Michaela is getting so big.  She has her 4 month well check tomorrow with her doctor so we will know for sure then just how big she has grown in the last 2 months.  Felicity continues to be a very helpful and loving big sister, but does have her moments where her 2-year-old side comes out and comes out BIG!!!

IMG_6378Michaela has hit a couple of major developmental milestones and has had a bunch of “1st’s”.  Around the end of June she found her toes.  Now she plays with them all the time.  When you lay her down on her back the first thing she does is play with her feet.  Shortly after discovering her feet she learned to roll over from her back to her tummy.  Now she goes in both directions.  The day she learned she could roll herself over she was so proud.  She would roll from her back to her tummy and then from her tummy to her back.  That is how she spent her day, rolling back and forth!

Her first for this month were the first time swimming, her first time in the big bath tub and her first bowling trip!  On July 4th we went over to Randy’s sister’s house (Aunt Jane and Uncle Peter’s house) to go swimming.  Michaela loved the water and thanks to Auntie Margaret for the bathing suit small enough to fit her.  She had fun, but also knew her limits.  When she was done swimming she let us know.

IMG_6435

We decided a few days ago that she was just getting to big for her tub that fit into the sink.  That and she was splashing and kicking and getting everything soaking wet!  So, we started giving her a bath in the big tub.  She is still taking a bath by herself though.  She is not quite big enough to take a bath with big sis yet.  Now she has tons of room to kick and splash around!  Although we have pictures of this event, they may not be internet publishable.  :)

Her last “1st” just happened on Friday.  Friday the 25th was Randy’s 31st birthday.  We went swimming in the morning and then went bowling in the afternoon.  It was also Felicity’s first time bowling.  We had a great time and both girls were so good!  Felicity did very good bowling.  She even beat her dad!!  She did have the assistance of a ramp and the gutter bumpers.  I took a pictures of the scoreboard at the end of the game, but since Randy came in last on his birthday, I won’t post it . . . out of respect for my elders!!  :)   Just kidding babe.  I love you.  Anyway, we had a great time!

Blooming and Growing

IMG_5991 The past few weeks there have been so many things blooming and growing around our house! We have these shrubs in the back yard, I wish I could remember their names, but they struggle all summer long and they did pretty well over the winter…but now they are like solid flowers! They are so beautiful! And our rose bushes are doing better than they ever have before. Our little Arizona Ash tree is greening up like crazy too. I might have to trim it a little it’s getting so top heavy.

IMG_5992  IMG_5993

IMG_5990 And of course, our little Michaela is growing like a weed too! She’s six and a half weeks now. She’s not sleeping through the night but she’s getting close. Once in a while we have a night where she goes from about 9 or 10 until 5 am. But usually she’s up once sometime around 2 or 3 am and again around 5 or 6. She’s really filling out and I think she looks completely different than when she was a newborn.

IMG_5987 IMG_6001

IMG_6010  IMG_6000

IMG_6013She is getting pretty good at holding her head up already, and her legs are really strong. I think she sometimes rolls herself onto her side by accident but not consistently yet. And she started smiling a week or two ago. It’s kind of a mouth wide open kind of smile, but its cute. We usually have to work at it to get her to do it, except for her big sister Lissie, she can usually do it really easy! And speaking of Felicity, she still loves being a big sister and recently got to give her sister a bottle for the first time. She was very excited, but being a 2.5 year old, she lost interest after about a minute and Dad had to finish up!

Layering Up

IMG_5997 This actually happened a little over a week ago but I’m just a little behind on my blogging. Felicity is usually pretty good about going to bed at nap time. She reads some books, and when she’s done she usually goes right to sleep (except for the last few days, but we won’t go into that). Anyway, she was reading quietly (or so we thought) in her room, and then she went to sleep on this particular day. When she woke up, we found that she had taken gone through her PJ drawer and pulled out a bunch of PJ bottoms, both shorts and leggings and put them on…in layers…6 all together, that’s S-I-X! We were impressed that she could actually put them all on! Becky and I couldn’t help but bust up laughing (and grab the camera of course)!

Mr. Incredible Calling

incredibles_wideweb__430x268

Felicity has really been into The Incredibles lately. It’s replaced princess movies as her movie obsession du jour. Today when Becky was on the phone with her friend Beth she had her little toy cell phone and she started talking "Hi Mr. Incredible…Mommy, It’s Mr. Incredible, he wants to talk to you."

Then tonight Becky and I were arguing with her about getting ready for bed. We started raising our voices a little because she wasn’t listening, and she raised her voice right back and shouted back "This is not about you!", a line from the movie when Bob and Helen (Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl) are arguing at home. Classic! It was one of those times where you just try not to laugh because you don’t want her to know she got a reaction.

P.S. No news on the baby front. Looks like we’ll be going to that scheduled induction on Thursday AM.
