Reflections on I-35 Bridge Collapse

The collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis Minnesota back in August hit me surprisingly hard. The failure really had nothing to do with the foundations of the bridge and therefore the geotechnical engineering, but it was a failure by the engineering profession and it cost 13 people their lives.
