We haven’t posted in a while…yadda yadda…as usual we’re playing catch up with the blog…you know the drill.
Last month Michaela turned one! What a wonderful year it has been, and we are all thoroughly enjoying the rapid pace of her development now…it seems like every day she tries some new sound/word, takes more steps, plays new games.
On the morning of her birthday (3/13) we gave her her present from us, her very own princess chair! She loves having one just like her sister does. That night we had a little practice round for her birthday party and gave her a cupcake…also a pretty big hit.
Then the next day, we had a party at our house. The photos are up if you want to view all of them, but here are a few highlights.
It was a fun party, MK didn’t make as much of a mess as her sister did on her 1st birthday, but she didn’t do too bad either. The other kids had a great time as well. Felicity played princess dress-up with her cousins Elisia and Shannon, and the Phelan boys (and Mikey U) had some fun dueling lightsabers on the Wii. It’s amazing nobody got knocked out the way they were swinging those things.
As if the weekend wasn’t busy enough, we did her 1-year portraits the day after. Fortunately she was a trooper and even gave us some good smiles.
So what is she doing now? Well, she started taking her 1st steps in early March, and gradually built up to a few steps, but it wasn’t until the last week or less that she’s really started taking off. She’s still a little hesitant, but she’s almost to the point of choosing walking over crawling as her preferred method of getting around.
She started pointing out body parts on herself and on other people. She likes watching Sesame Street in her princess chair with big Sister. She loves swinging and spending time outside, even crawling on the rocks…ouch. She climbs on about anything that will hold still and some things that won’t (like Kona). Every time we carry her down the hallway past Becky’s family picture, she says “Papa” and points to her grandpa (or occasionally her grandma, sorry Phyllis), plays peek-a-boo.
One of my favorite things from the last month or so has been her dancing. She watches big sister dance all the time, and she would stand and hold onto things and bounce up and down, and later she would sway her hips from side to side. She would even do it on command, and I was always telling her to “shake her bootie”. So cute! One surefire way to get her to dance is to play her sister’s favorite song, the intro song for Hannah Montana. That would usually get them both going.
She says (or makes sounds for) nose, Dadda, Momma, dog, hot dog (as in hot diggidy dog from Mickey’s clubhouse, a relatively new Saturday morning favorite for big sister), Elmo, up, cracker, papa, poo-poo, pee-pee, bear, bird, cat, baby, boo (a very fun game), ball, hi, uh-oh, Hoover, no-no… and more every day!
I know we say this all the time (or I do at least), but I’ll try to be better about posting regular updates since she changes so fast!
